Mali in a political crisis

The soldiers in Mali have seized power against their democratic leader and the whereabouts of the democratic President Amadour Toure are unknown. This has led to the country 's  isolation by its neighbouring countries and the West who have refused to acknowledge the new government in power. The West have withdrawn trade and humanitarian aid and Mali faces danger of economic and social relapse. It is not the first time Africa has had Coups neither is it the first time it has dictators in power. The cycle of coups and dictators seem to be revolving  in Africa although the countries have ratified Human rights treaties. No wonder Africa is called the Dark Continent because it seems the African leaders never learn and always put their selfish power hungry interests before the people. Although Senegal ‘s elections proved however it’s high time Africa has such democratic elections and  learnt  that the leaders should be chosen by the people and should not chose themselves!

Zuma and Malema at war!

Julius Malema and Jacob Zuma 's recent actions against each other have proved that the two are at war.Malema 's criticism of the ANC leaders arguing that there are failing to uphold the objectives of the party  which are o return the power to the people have showed that the 30 year old leader is surely not in support with the current ANC 's leadership. Moreover  the reason that he was expelled from ANC was not only causing division but was because he critised Zuma 's leadership and praised Thabo Mbeki 's leadership.Malema 's disobedience of the ANC ruling swearing that he will take his appeal to the ANC 's conference has shown the young man 's failure to respect Zuma as the president of ANC.
On the other side the youth wing has said that Zuma forced Malema 's expulsion and even announced the expulsion of the leader before the disciplinary comittee's ruling. He has also given the ANCYL the right to go ahead with the elections of the new youth leader whilst he knows very well that Malema has appealed against his expulsion.Monthlante 's actions at the ANC meeting where he asked Zuma not comment on the appeal of Julius Malema has also showed that something is really up between the two.Lets just hope the war between the two wont divide the most powerful party in South Africa. The fact is that the two are power hungry and got where there are today by hard work but then ANC really need better leaders than the two.

Do Zimbabweans have power?

NGOS offering food to hungry Zimbabwean kids
Zimbabweans have been through a lot from human rights abuse to a huge economic relapse but there has not been a single day that you have seen them on the streets voicing out their problems. They  are ruled by the inclusive government which is  there because SADC ruled so, "a government of inconvenience."Kabwato argues that Everyone in Zimbabwe engages in some trade of sorts to make ends meet -you can't survive on a formal job.If you want electricity you buy a generator ,if you want water you buy on the streets ,people no longer look to the state for anything else other than a birth certificate and a passport.(Newsday 26/11/2010).The people of Zimbabwe do not have a say in their ruling as it is the government is busy debating on when the elections should be  held and the people have n't yet voiced out what they want. Many projects lie unfinished in the country.Talking of which Bulawayo  used to be the haven of industries and was even called Kontuthu Ziyathunqa because of the smoke from the  industries  right now it faces  a shortage of industries. The government was supposed to give the city  money to revive it's industries but then that has not happenend, knowing the government of Zimbabwe probably it was just cheap political talk. The question  at hand is where is the legislative in all this,it is suppose to provide the system of checks and hold accountable the government to what they promised the  people.Recently the human rights activist Gwisai was arrested for watching the Arab Spring video,a video which can be on anyone 's hands thus  a setback on the freedom of expression. The country boasts of  being democratic but  unfortunately the case of Gwisai is nothing but a threat on human rights.Where is the public in all this and most of all where is the Judiciary to carryout it's duties of making sure that the bill of rights is being upholded by the government!!
