Matter of imposition or a system of checks!!

European Union has proposed to help Zimbabwe Media Council financially if it reforms it’s media laws.The question  at hand is ,is  it a matter of imposing because  ZMC is financially struggling and desperately needs their help or they are providing a system of checks and balance to make sure the government does not abuse power.

The media terrain in Zimbabwe has not been playing it’ s democratic role but rather has been divided into two political camps. Journalists have been failing to hold accountable the actions of those in power because of the repressive media laws which   hinder their watchdog role.The reforming of the media laws will go a long way into helping peaceful elections in the country.

 The  government may see it as a matter of imposing or intervention but rather  the European union is holding the government accountable to the freedom of expression concept.Journalists should be  empowered by the media laws rather than being  disempowered it’s high time the government  put a stop into  blaming EU for their human rights efforts in the country and  try to make a change!!!!
