EU removes unneccessary sanctions!!!!

EU has unfroze sanctions against a third of government officials who were in the list of those affected by asset freezes and visa ban. These included Tafataona Mahoso, Hebson Muchecheteri and Leon Mugabe among others. It has also lifted prohibition of European companies doing business with 20 of Zimbabwean entities, leaving sanctions against the much anticipated development aid.

The upliftment of sanctions against government officials, instead of against development aid has shown the lack of commitment by European Union into bringing about economic change in the country. Arguably the uplifted sanctions in a nutshell do not by a single inch help the country but rather provide a leeway for the government officials to continue furthering their personal interests at the expense of the public.

Although there has been economical progress in the country, the upliftment of the development aid sanctions would have brought a new dimension to the economy of the country. It seems Zimbabweans need to get used to the sanctions, because EU has vowed not to remove them unless there are deep political reforms and good prospects for credible and peaceful elections.
